Hi Everyone...
I just wanted to jump in here for a quick
second regarding the family tendency to breast cancer and other cancers. So
sorry, Pat, that you and your family face this.
My husband's family has a tendency to
ovarian cancer, which you may know also might predispose them to breast cancer
as they are linked. My mother-in-law had stage 3 ovarian cancer (
and survived it), her sister died of it, her aunt died from it, her
grandmother died from it, and now her niece has it. You could understand my
concern since I have a daughter, age 28, and a sister- in -law who now has had
both ovaries out.
When mentioning this phenomena to my
gynecologist last year he said that my sister- in- law probably did not
protect herself from ovarian cancer by having her ovaries out, as yes...you
can have ovarian cancer without ovaries. I am sure this is probably the case
with breast cancer. Also, just as there are many types of breast cancer,
there are many types of ovarian cancer and some , but certainly not
all.....are genetic.
His family has considered initiating a genetic
study of the family and may still do that. So, that is a possibility I am sure
for your family as well.
Very best wishes....
