[Wellness] Celebrating
Today is a wonderful day for me because I am now cherishing 4 years cancer
free. My husband Harry and I began our celebration last night at a wine
dinner at our friends gourmet cooking school. Partners in the Murphy Goode
winery in Sonoma shared wonderful wines, stories and food with us
throughout a very pleasant evening. It was a one of a kind night. We had a
lovely evening together remembering what we had been through for so long and
YES he most definitely went through it also. Today, the 28th my actual
anniversary I am meeting some wonderful girlfriends who also played a huge
role in my recovery while I worked. Their support, kindnesses, and
unselfishness will always be a highly valued part of my survivorship. I am
so fortunate to have so many people to thank from family, friends,
nurses, doctors, and the wonderful people who have shared experience, advice,
support and tears with me on this list. Things I couldn't say to most
because of their own fears and concerns. This list membership has been so
incredibly honest and I am so thankful for every email over the past eight
years.
Saturday, OCtober 1 begins Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is a very
important time to educate others and empower them to prevent cancer. It is
an important time for us to post information, experiences, questions, etc.
to better inform ourselves and our membership. Nine years, five years of
treatment, and four years cancer free. It can be done. It has been done and
I'm already planning my next BIGGIE TEN years and Five cancer free. WOW A
doctor at Duke gave me a 3% chance of living 10 years. Odds can be beaten.
If you have been newly diagnosed most of us know how afraid you are. There
is validation in that but also tremendous validation in all the ways the
treatment and diagnosis have improved. I read everyday of new and less
invasive, more targeted and less broad based treatments that are not far
away. This month I will share some new research with you regarding all
aspects of breast cancer and wellness. Right now I have to go get ready for
my special lunch.
My best in celebrating everyday in health and wellness,
Karen Patterson, Founder of Womens-Wellness.com and a breast cancer survivor
