RE: [Wellness] New Member
Nancy,
Welcome to the group. I am very glad you found us. I am Karen
the founder of the website and group and I so understand your fear and confusion
at this point. We have some very nice ladies in this group who I am sure
will pop up soon with both great support and information. Your situation
is all of our greatest fear and I am glad that you feel so free and open about
asking for support. This is a great group for that. You are by no
means facing a death sentence. I have met women living 10 or so years with
metastatic liver cancer and that was 8 years ago. Unfortunately, you do
have a hard road with this treatment. Taxol is a tough treatment.
Your attitude is super. And remember no one with breast cancer is ever
cured. After six years of treatment my oncologist reminds me all the time
that there is no cure and my cancer will probably come back. I have a
little anxiety fit and then I say I could also die in my own pool so I am going
to be fearless.
Are
you being treated at a good facility? Where do you live? One thing I would
definitely suggest with Taxol is a referral to a nutrionist. It is very
hard on the stomach and digestive system and you may need help finding the foods
that you can eat. Ice cream is always a great one. Nutrition is so
important through treatment and I remember never even wanting to chew.
Being so darn tired I didn't want to eat at all. My son and husband would
sit me at the table and make me eat something. You lose your sense of
taste so it never matters what you eat. Ice cream is the answer.
Do not
ever be afraid of admitting to depression or anxiety. Tell your doctor how
you feel and take help with prescription if you need it. Don't make
it harder on yourself. I am now going to provide you with some great links
to information on your treatments. It is very important to be an empowered
patient and knowlege is power. Please contact us any time you need to talk
or need some more information. You are never alone and we understand the things
that others without cancer can never quite get. Take good care of
yourself. Another thing I remember with taxol is to take good care of your
skin. Get a lovely lotion and keep your skin moisturized. You are so young
to face this challenge. But the great thing about youth is that we are
usually stronger physically and mentally and can beat this thing. Please
keep in touch.
My
best,
Karen Patterson, Founder of Womens-Wellness.com and a breast
cancer survivor

GUIDELINES:
Hello,
I am a new member to the womens-wellness
group. My name is Nancy. I am 48 yrs. old. I am a breast
cancer survivor or 3 yrs. with a recent diagnosis of metastatic liver
cancer almost three years to the date of the original diagnosis. This
was a major shock, since my tumor was small (< 2cm.) was estrogen and
progestoren positive, HER2NU negative, and no positive lymph nodes. I
did the standard of AC for 4 cycles, followed by radiation. I did not
take Tamoxifen because of the risk of blood clots.(I had blot clots when I was
23 yrs. and have a blood clotting factor deficiency. I was convinced I
was cured after the 1st go round!
I am treating again. This time with Taxol,
Gemzar and Zoladex (sp. - a drug similar to lupron).
After the first "leg" of treatments my new scans
have shown tumor response. Initially, three tumors and a few "spots"
were reduced to two tumors with a decrease in size and a few "spots".
I start the second "leg" this friday. Same
drugs, a little reduction in dose, but an increase in frequency.
If any one out there can offer support I truly
welcome the words.
It is a little harder this time because I can't
be "cured". I do want to break records though!!
I hope I wasn't too "chatty".
If I can help any one as well I would love to
touch base !!
Thank You.
Nancy C.
