RE: [Wellness] Has anyone used Femara?

Title: Re: [Wellness] Has anyone used Femara?
Hi Sarah and Beverly,

I think Beverly's onc is right on target.  The Tamoxifen studies that I have read found that after two years Tamoxifen can not only stop working but actually reverse its treatment.  I think I have the study in my archive as well as the website archives.  Any member should keep in mind that the archives are a great source of information.  Simply go to the discussion page  http://www.womens-wellness.com/discussion.html  click on the search key and enter the topic.  I did this for Femara because I thought I remembered a link with personal experiences.  I found a lot of research links but not the one I was looking for.  There are several great links on info on Tamoxifen and Femara that may be useful to anyone making this decision.  As always, my best to all, best health and wellness,

Karen

Hi Sarah,

I have been on Femara since Februrary. Finished my 5 years of Tamoxifen in March 2003. My oncologist feels so strongly about it that he is taking patients off Tamoxifen after two years.

So far, no side effects that I can feel/see. I have had aches legs a few days,b ut that is infrequent and could just as well been from a hard day at work.

I would prefer not to take more drugs, but my onc was so impressed with this and says it will cut my risk of recurrence over the next 15 years from 7% to 3%, so I am in.

Hello ladies -
I have had discussion with my oncologist about starting Femara. I am a breast cancer survivor coming up on 5 years, and a recent study shows Femara can be effective in limiting recurrences in years 5-10 for post-menopausal women. I am not menopausal, but my doctor seems to think it should help me anyway.
Has anyone tried Femara, and what are your experiences? Side effects? Problems? It is supposed to be far safer than Tamoxifen, but this wouldn't be the first time that what I hear from my doctor, and what actual patients using the drug tell me, turn out to be different.
Hope everyone is well, and thanks,
Sarah
