[Wellness] LCIS

Hello,
I recently had a cyst and some surrounding tissue removed from my breast. One month before my surgery my sister was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. I do not have breast cancer right now but it was determined that I have lobular carcinoma in situ  which, as I understand, does not itself become cancer cells but puts me at a high risk for cancer. I was recommended to an oncologist who wanted me to take Tamoxafin. He said premenopausal women do well on this drug.( I am 47 yrs. and have had very few perimenopausal symptoms so far). My other options to reduce the risk of breast cancer were to do nothing but watch carefully, as I am now (i.e. Self breast exams and x-rays),have my ovaries removed or, he said in passing, become pregnant again. I asked if there were other women in my situation who might contact me to discuss how they reacted to Tamoxafin. He said his nurse would give my name to some people and have them call me. So far no one has called. So, is there anyone who is having a similar experience and what are you doing about it?
I do not want to take Tamoxafin and I wonder if there is an alternative. My reasons for not taking this drug are:
  • Tamoxafin is known to cause uterine cancer and I have an aunt who                               died from uterine cancer.
  • I am concerned about immediate menopausal symptoms and how they will effect the rest of my health (bones and heart health in particular).
  • I am a single mother of an 8 yr. old boy. Life is hard enough as it is and I am afraid of the emotional effects of this drug and how ti will effect my ability to be a good Mother.
I have wondered if my body could produce milk again, could I pump it for two years and reduce my risk. It sounds wacky but at least it would be natural and gradual.
If anyone can help me, I'd like to gather as much information as possible.
Thank-you,
P.
