After arriving home I sat and reflected on why I felt more uplifted and less anxious about the upcoming high dose chemotherapy treatments. After reading a posting Harry wrote commenting on the excellent nursing care we received I realized It really had a huge impact on my fear and anxiety levels. Two things changed for me on Friday, January 22. First was that I had met four other couples just like us while going through pheresis. We are so special and also so ordinary. It is really strange. THe other couple made me feel that I was not alone. Three other women made the same decison and are facing all the same challenges daily.
The other sense of relief came from meeting the staff. I met such dedicated caring nurses who made me feel comfortable being vunerable. I guess that over time I have realized that the vunerability scares me the most. I have to rely on others, when I have a spent a lifetime working to need no one else. It's so hard to place my future in these strangers hands. But I met some incredible strangers. Women with daughters and kindergarteners, etc. Kind, caring, considerate people. Thank you for not only a great experience but the feeling of trust I need to continue this process.
