Karen's High Dose Chemo Diary

Karen must have found that machine's weak point because she scared it in to taking all that was necessary on the second day of Pheresis. We received a call from the doctor at about 9:15 last night saying Karen was done with this phase of the treatment and could go home. Thank you!! For all those that are about to go through HDC or may in the future, remember to not count on leaving on the day of your last collection because you won't know the results until late that evening.

It will be nice having one more day of rest at home. Karen's treatment by the BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) nurses was so good that she takes comfort knowing she will be in good hands when she spends the last weeks of her stay with them. We will leave for Duke again on Tuesday (it's Friday now) so that she can check in on Wednesday by 11:00AM. Her first High Dose will begin on Thursday and run for 4 days with the last being the worst. She will check in to the Hampton INN on Monday.
