It's been a few days since I last posted an update on Karen mostly due to the positive lack of change since I last posted. Karen has been doing very well, although I'm sure both she and her sister Lynn are beginning to get very bored of the process. Every day at 7:15 they leave for the clinic to begin the daily routine. First, they take blood samples to test for blood counts and chemical analysis. Karen's white blood count is still at .1 and needs to be 5000 before they will let her out. Her platelets have remained low as well and they have twice given her platelets. When they gave her platelets yesterday she broke out in hives which they quickly solved with an extra Benadryl shot. In addition she often gets Potassium and Magnesium IVs to boost her system as needed. It takes approximately 2 hours to determine what IV's she will get for the day and then about an hour and 1/2 to receive them. During this time they also take her vital signs, discuss diet and any other problems and have either or both the Nurse Practitioner and the Doctor see her. During Saturday's 2 hour wait she noticed the nurses struggling with their computer and of course she stepped up and fixed it for them (always the technologist). She also tried to sneak over to one of the computers and change the screen saver from "Happy Valentines Day" to "Release Patterson" but couldn't do it without getting caught.
On the home front I've been catching up on bills, preparing prescription, hotel, travel and meals reimbursements, doing taxes, housework and helping get a school science project done. Friends have been a big help with Drew and I'm being treated to dinner often. We've had some quality time together and have started jogging 1 mile to the weight room, working out and jogging back so that we both get some winter weight off.
Karen has been receiving your cards and thanks you all. She also was able to make a couple of calls to check on her friends going through various medical processes and was pleased to hear her friend Val who had a radical mastectomy was doing well and resting. We hope everyone else is well, especially those on the list that have gone through some recent medical problems. Keep us informed and if others on the list see articles of interest pertaining to Menopause, Breast Cancer and Wellness please post for all to see.
