Karen continues to do real well. Our friend Larry Johnson drove her sister Lynn up to change places with me and Karen was standing outside the hotel waiting to greet them. She couldn't get a hug when they arrived because she is now down to a white blood cell count of 500 on a scale for most people of 20,000. The nurse said she is under "House Arrest" with no public contact and a strict diet (we thought that was the way it was already).
Yesterday was day +2 and all she had to receive at the clinic was her daily Neupogen shot to encourage her white blood cell growth. No IV's at all. She says she's the envy of all the girls. She is now keeping down some light food (fruit cup, Italian ice, etc) which will make the nurses and dieticians (sp) very happy. Keeping food down hasn't been my problem. The scales at the clinic say I've gained 15 pounds and I'm hoping it's due to wearing my sneakers on the scale :-) I've been running daily and working out to try and get some of the excess weight off from sitting around for hours on end.
I have to leave my Karen today (Wednesday) for about two weeks. I'll miss her very much, but I know she is in good hands with her sister Lynn. I'll keep in touch with both of them through phone calls and AOL instant messenger and then forward the updates to the list.
